Joni Mitchell gave me the push to stop using Spotify for a bit but when I did I couldn't even remember when I had started using it. Okay, I still stream music but was well into adulthood before streaming was even a thing. While detoxing from Spotify I got all my old albums out, a good half of which I'd digitised anyway and realised that all the music I had was a lot better than what I'd been listening to for what had become a long and unspecified time.

Albums are often stories crafted by people who have given us the gift of something, so deserve to be listened to all the way through really. It's also easier to pick out the wheat from the chaff when someone has a whole album to make. Back at the end of the 20th Century crap pop was often characterised by the hit, the second okay song, half an okay song and the rest of the album full of dreadful fillers. A good album all the way through is as sure a sign of quality as anything and of course we should care about having more quality in our lives.
